Territory Design Scope
Territory Solutions International uses AlignStar® technology from TTG, Incorporated. AlignStar is the most widely used territory optimization and alignment software on the market today. AlignStar is a software tool designed for businesses that need to manage, optimize, analyze, align or realign territories. It combines specialized features used in designing territories together with a database, mapping technology, reports, drive time information, territory analysis and state of the art optimization algorithms.
AlignStar provides user-friendly design tools that reduce the level of effort required when creating or managing current and proposed alignment structures. AlignStar includes a full complement of design features, including data import/export, mapping, alignment, optimization, reporting and map printing. And, AlignStar includes the data layers that are needed to develop and visualize both geographic based alignments and account based alignments. Examples of each alignment type is provided below, with samples for the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Geographic Alignments Constructing territory alignments within the United States can be easily accomplished using the US 5-digit zip code structure as territory building blocks (approximately 42,000 zip codes are identified by the United States Postal Service). In addition to using 5-digit zip codes, AlignStar offers other geographic units that can also be used as territory building blocks, including US 3-digit zip codes, counties, area codes, or even states.
Within Canada, forward sortation area (FSA) boundaries provide excellent geographic building blocks for territory development. Canada maintains about 1,600 FSA areas.
And within Mexico, Municiopios (similar to US counties) provide excellent geographic units for territory building blocks. Mexico has more than 2,400 Municiopios.
Account Based Alignments AlignStar also provides tools for constructing individual account based alignments, which are best used when territory design needs require splitting of accounts within each geographical unit (i.e., splitting of zip codes). Using latitude and longitude coordinates, which can be provided through a geocoding process separate from AlignStar, (please see our Company Services section for additional geocoding information), each individual account record can be displayed within AlignStar and assigned to territories as needed to construct assignments and improve territory balance. Within the US, an account based alignment would appear with individual symbols on the map for each account record. In the following AlignStar map, both individual accounts and zip code boundaries are displayed for this account based alignment. Each individual account record is color-coded to easily identify the territory of assignment, with user-controlled features to apply a variety of symbols to identify account groups (symbols by account type, ownership or industry).
In Canada, geocoding each record to the corresponding six character postal code (over 750,000 postal codes are identified within Canada) allows for an ideal match of accounts to their address location. Individual account records and the FSA boundaries are displayed in this Canadian account based alignment.
Within Mexico, the five digit postal code is also a very good match for the geocoding process. Mexico has over 28,000 unique postal code locations. Individual account records and the Municiopios boundaries are displayed in this Mexican account based alignment.
As shown above, AlignStar has the flexibility to handle a wide variety of alignment needs. Geographic alignments, account alignments, or a combination of geography and accounts are all available alignment types available with this user-friendly application.
